Dear Diary,

Day 1: Arrival at the Village – The Calm Before the Storm

As our car made its way along the winding village road, I could feel a slight chill in the air—a reminder that winter was slowly creeping in. The sun had begun to set, casting a warm golden glow across the fields, and I wrapped my shawl a little tighter around my shoulders. It’s that time of year when the days are warm but the evenings start to carry a cool breeze, a gentle reminder that winter and wedding season are both around the corner.

We arrived at the village just as dusk settled in. The familiar scent of mitti mixed with the crispness of the approaching winter filled the air. Stepping out of the car, I felt a rush of nostalgia. The village looked just the same, but the air felt different—there was a sense of excitement, of celebration brewing.

Chal beta, saaman utarwa,” Ammi called out, as we gathered our bags and headed inside. The house was buzzing with activity, cousins and aunts scurrying around making last-minute arrangements for the shaadi. The cool breeze swirled through the open windows, carrying the sound of laughter and the scent of freshly brewed chai.

As night fell, the temperature dropped just enough to make us huddle closer together around the stove. Cups of hot chai in hand, we sat under the starry sky, the winter air making the warmth of family all the more comforting. The real festivities hadn’t even begun yet, but I could already feel the magic of this season—the blend of cooler evenings and the warmth of togetherness.

Winter was arriving, and with it, the promise of unforgettable memories.

Tomorrow is Mehendi night, and I know the fun (and drama!) will only grow from here. Until then, I’ll enjoy the peace of this chilly evening.

Khuda Hafiz for now.

– Signing off, as wedding madness awaits.
